Kakao says it has a new zero-tolerance policy for sex crimes against children and teenagers.
In a statement Thursday, Kakao said its KakaoTalk messenger app and Daum web portal will apply strong regulations on sex crimes, adding it will work with police if legal action is needed.
Individual users can also inform authorities if they discover such illegal acts by using reporting functions on Kakao.
The move comes in response to public outcry over the "Nth Room" scandal that exploded earlier this year.
The case uncovered a massive sex crime ring that involved the distribution of illicit materials featuring dozens of victims, many of them minors, via the Telegram messenger service.
