The Indian health ministry has confirmed that the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has exceeded 2 million.

After the United States and Brazil, India is the worst affected nation in the world and on Friday, nearly 60,000 new cases were reported.

The BBC's Yogita Limaye reports from Mumbai.

Over the past week on many days, India has had the highest number of new coronavirus cases and deaths in the world and many believe the scale of the outbreak is much bigger than what the official data reflect.

However, public health experts say the death rate relative to the size of the population is still a fraction of what's been seen in countries like the U.K., Spain and Italy.

According to the government, more than two thirds of Indians infected with COVID-19 have recovered.
