The United States registered more than 2,400 coronavirus fatalities on Wednesday as the Thanksgiving holiday began.
The figures is the highest daily toll in six months and raised the nationwide death toll to 262,080, according to data by Johns Hopkins University.
The country also reported nearly 200,000 new cases.
President-elect Joe Biden tried to reassure Americans in a televised Thanksgiving address that life will return to normal once a vaccine is delivered.
Speaking from his transition headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden said, "There is real hope, tangible hope. So, hang on. Don't let yourself surrender to the fatigue."
