Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun says around 70 percent of South Korea's fourth extra budget will be executed before the Chuseok holiday.

Parliament approved the 7.8 trillion won supplementary spending plan late Tuesday.

It is aimed at cushioning the blow from the recent resurgence of COVID-19 in the country that led to a period of stricter social distancing measures, impacting economic activity.

During a high-level meeting on Thursday among ruling Democratic Party, government and Cheong Wa Dae officials, Chung said he will do his best to implement the budget plan soon.

With regard to the five-day holiday next week, the prime minister urged the public to refrain from holding gatherings and traveling, stressing it will be a crucial time that will determine whether the virus is brought under control or spreads further.
