The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to keep five public swimming pools and water parks along the Han River closed this summer due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The city made the announcement Friday, citing fears over the spread of infections and serious concerns about whether quarantine guidelines could be followed properly at the facilities.

Earlier, the city tentatively postponed the opening of swimming pools in Ttukseom, Gwangnaru and Yeouido and water playgrounds in Nanji and Yangwha, originally scheduled for June 26.

Meanwhile, other popular Han River destinations, including the Seoul Battleship Park in the Mapo District, gradually started reopening to visitors Wednesday, after the government eased coroanvirus restrictions on public facilities in the capital.
