The Seoul Metropolitan Government says it will lift a monthslong suspension on child care centers in the city that was put in place amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Under the plan announced Monday, child care centers will start opening their doors again on August 18.

But district offices will still be able to separately impose bans according to the situation in their communities.

A total of 5,420 child care centers in the capital have been officially closed since February 25 due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus that has infected more than 14,000 nationwide.

Centers that reopen will be advised to strictly follow anti-coronavirus measures, such as restricting attendance of students who show symptoms, sanitizing educational materials and running daily fever checks.
