Temporary coronavirus testing centers set up across the greater Seoul area will be shortening operating hours this week due to an extreme cold spell in the region.

Government official Yoon Tae-ho said in a press briefing Wednesday that all 150 testing sites will open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.

He said the decision to cut hours was made for the safety of medical workers and citizens.

Yoon said operations will return to normal next week with sites running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and until 1 p.m. on weekends.

The sites will provide free COVID-19 testing through January 17.
