The Seoul Metropolitan Government has issued an administrative order requiring all owners of singing rooms in the capital, as well as their employees, to get tested for COVID-19.
Local officials said Tuesday the latest action comes in direct response to a rise in coronavirus cases linked to such establishments.
People subject to the order have until June 13 to get screened or face fines of up to 2 million won.
Businesses that fail to comply, and are later linked to confirmed coronavirus cases, could face harsher penalties.
Song Eun-cheol, the city's epidemic control officer, called on business owners to cooperate and help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
