Unusually heavy monsoon showers have battered the Korean Peninsula for the past week, leaving at least 10 dead, 17 missing and displacing some 2,500 people from their homes.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, downpours in South Korea are forecast to continue through the weekend.

The southern provinces will get heavy rain until Saturday morning.

Related weather advisories have been issued for most parts of North and South Chungcheong as well as Gyeongsang provinces.

In the central region, sporadic showers are expected, with some areas to receive up to 300 millimeters of precipitation, while the Seoul metropolitan region will get light rain.

The wet weather will persist through Sunday and well into next week for the central region.
