Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop has apologized again for the tragic building collapse that left nine people dead and eight others injured last week.
Lee expressed regret over the incident in a meeting with key aides on Tuesday and called on officials in the southwestern city to continue to provide support to the victims' families.
The mayor also vowed to make safety his number one priority.
Wednesday's accident occurred when a five-story building undergoing demolition toppled onto a street below, crushing a city bus carrying passengers.
Local police have requested arrest warrants for two people, including the driver of an excavator at the demolition site, on charges of professional negligence resulting in death.
