North Korea and Iran have reportedly resumed long-range missile cooperation.

According to a Reuters report on Sunday, an unnamed senior U.S. official was quoted as saying, "Iran and North Korea have resumed cooperation on a long-range missile project, including the transfer of critical parts."

The official did not offer any details or evidence of the alleged project, but his remarks reinforce lingering speculation over the North's continued weapons development amid international sanctions.

Pyongyang and Tehran are believed to have been cooperating on ballistic missile and nuclear technologies for some time, with rumors that Iran purchased North Korean missiles decades ago.

The American official said the U.S. on Monday will sanction more than two dozen people and entities involved in Iran's nuclear, missile and conventional arms based on the argument that Tehran wants nuclear weapons capability and delivery means.

U.S. President Donald Trump has recently been stepping up pressure on Iran in an apparent move to appeal to pro-Israel voters ahead of the November 3 election.

Meanwhile, denuclearization negotiations between Pyongyang and Washington have been stalled since their no-deal summit in Hanoi in February 2019.
