Hyundai Motor Company says it is temporarily suspending its plant in southern India because of a surge of new coronavirus cases in the region.
The South Korean carmaker announced the plant in the state of Tamil Nadu will be shut down from Tuesday for five days.
The decision came after two workers tested positive for COVID-19.
Tamil Nadu is one of the worst hit states in India, recording a daily average of more than 30,000 new infections over the past week.
Lockdowns had been imposed on some factories through the end of May, with the exception of automobile plants.
In recent weeks, Hyundai temporarily halted some of its domestic plants due to semiconductor shortages amid the pandemic.
