U.S. President Donald Trump has said for the first time that he will leave the White House if the Electoral College formalizes President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

Trump on Thursday told reporters he will leave if that happens, but also made clear that he will likely never formally concede.

"Certainly I will. Certainly I will and you know that. But I think that there will be a lot of things happening between now and the 20th of January, a lot of things.

Trump continued to claim "massive fraud" in the election, without providing evidence, and said despite the results, this may not be his last Thanksgiving in the presidential office.

It was the first time he had taken questions from reporters since Election Day.

With regard to Biden's transition, Trump said, "I think it's not right that he's trying to pick a Cabinet," even though his administration gave the green light for the process to get underway.

The Electoral College will meet on December 14.

Major news agencies declared Biden the winner of the presidential race earlier this month, saying he had secured 306 Electoral College votes compared with Trump's 232.
