Protesters are back on the streets of Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar, a day after 18 people were killed by security forces.

They remain defiant in their opposition to last months' military coup.

The detained civilian leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, appeared in court Monday via video link in the capital Naypyidaw.

The BBC's Jonathan Head has the latest.

She's now appearing in courts and they have applied another two charges to the one she already has of possessing illegal walkie talkies and not observing COVID restrictions during the election campaigns last year.

I mean, this is a show trial.

It's a farce, but in a way that won't stop the military.

They are charging her and President Wyn Myint, the former head of state, who was her ally.

She has not been seen in public since she was detained right after the coup.

She's not been able to see or even speak to her lawyer.

And her lawyer has had to spend the last couple of weeks moving from house to house to avoid being detained himself.
