Cheong Wa Dae opened a National Security Office meeting Thursday to discuss the catastrophic explosion in Lebanon's capital and possible South Korean assistance.

In a press release, the presidential office said participants discussed providing Beirut with emergency support through its Dongmyeong peacekeeping unit in Lebanon.

Some 280 South Korean troops are currently stationed in the Western Asian country.

No casualties have been reported among Korean nationals there, according to Seoul's foreign ministry.
