Late-night bus operations in the capital will be reduced by 20 percent after 10 p.m. starting from Tuesday, as part of stricter measures to control the spread of the coronavirus.

That means nearly 500 less buses will run for two hours until 12 a.m.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said subway operations will also be reduced by 20 percent late at night from 10 p.m. beginning Friday.

The measures, which are expected to be in place through the end of the year, are aimed at minimizing movement and encouraging residents to return home early.

The city is also reportedly considering stopping subway operations an hour earlier at 11 p.m. if the coronavirus situation in the country worsens.
