Torrential downpours are forecast to batter the Yeongdong region in Gangwon Province.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, mountainous areas east of the Taebaek range were forecast to get up to 20 millimeters of rain per hour from late Monday through the following morning.
The weather agency has urged caution, recommending people stay away from mountain streams, adding that measures should be taken to prevent injuries from possible flooding, landslides and the collapse of embankments caused by loose soil.
Elsewhere, light to moderate showers were expected to fall in the capital area and regions down south before tapering off early Tuesday.
