U.S. President Donald Trump's former National Security Advisor John Bolton says Trump could meet again with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to help his reelection chances.

Bolton made the remarks during a press conference in New York Thursday when asked about the possibility of Trump and Kim meeting before the U.S. presidential election in November.

Bolton said Trump may seek a so-called October surprise, adding if the president felt he was in deep trouble, another meeting with Kim might look like something that could turn things upside down again.

The hawkish former senior official also said Washington wasted two years of activity and photo ops with Pyongyang that the regime took advantage of by continuing work on both its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
