A North Korean propaganda outlet has slammed South Korea for taking part in an upcoming U.S.-led multinational maritime exercise.

Uriminzokkiri on Wednesday called the Rim of the Pacific exercise an "invasive and provocative game of war" intended to crush the North and neighboring countries with force.

The biennial drills are scheduled to kick off on August 17 in Hawaii for a two-week run.

In particular, it criticized Seoul for joining the military exercise and jumping through hoops to follow orders from Washington amid global efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The outlet also claimed Washington views Seoul as nothing more than "a target for exploitation for their own national interests."
