Britain, France and Germany have condemned a series of recent missile launches by North Korea, urging the regime to comply with United Nations resolutions.

In a joint statement on Wednesday, the European countries said the tests "undermine regional as well as international peace and security."

"Such activity is a matter of grave concern and will receive a united response," their foreign ministries said.

The remarks came after the United States requested an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council for Thursday.

Pyongyang has test-fired missiles on seven occasions so far this year and launched on Sunday its most powerful missile since 2017.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said it was an intermediate-range ballistic missile, but North Korea claimed it was a Hwasong-12 "intermediate and long-range" ballistic missile.
