A 3.1 magnitude earthquake hit North Korea's southeastern border province Friday morning.
South Korea's meteorological agency said it detected the temblor around 10:35 a.m..
It was centered 40 kilometers north-northwest of Kilju in North Hamgyong Province at a depth of 17 kilometers.
The weather agency said it believes the quake occurred naturally.
Kilju is where the Punggye-ri nuclear test facility is located.
The site was partially demolished by the North Korean regime in 2018.
